Roseau or Géran? How to Choose Your Flower Water
Every Katari ritual starts with a mist. Oil on damp skin spreads further and seals the water in, so the flower water isn't an extra step; it is the step that makes everything after it work. The question I get most is: which one, Roseau or Géran?
Same distiller, two very different waters
Both come from Béja, in northern Tunisia, where flower waters have been made for centuries. Both are distilled by Amin, who holds a Ph.D. in flower-water distillation. Both are first distillations, with the plant's own oil left in. Roseau is made once a year, in May, from fresh Damask rose petals. Géran comes from wild-grown rose geranium.
And in Tunisia, the same rose water goes into coffee and pastries. That tells you something about how pure it is.

The quick guide
| Roseau (rose water) | Géran (geranium water) | |
|---|---|---|
| Feels | Soft, refreshing, toning | Cool, balancing, calming |
| Scent | Floral, honeyed rose | Green, herbal, fresh (not floral) |
| Loves | Dry, mature and sensitive skin | Oily, combination and flushed skin |
| Best moments | Morning toner, makeup prep, midday refresh | Aftershave, after waxing, hot flashes, hot days |
| Pairs with | Hoba, Rubi, Barie | Hoba, Black Seed |
Why not both?
Honestly, most of our longtime customers keep both. I use Roseau in the morning before Hoba, and Géran on hot afternoons and whenever my skin feels heated or stressed. Géran is also the aftershave I recommend to every man who asks: it cools razor burn, and he won't smell like a flower shop. Both mix beautifully with Argil for a masque.
How to use either one
- Cleanse.
- Mist, then tap it in with your fingertips like raindrops. Don't just spray and walk away.
- Press in your oil while skin is still damp.
