Travel with us to the source of ancient beauty.

Founder of Katari

Hi, I'm Kate.

It started with a question: where do you find beauty that has been trusted for thousands of years and is still made by hand?

Since 2010 I have looked for the answer across the Mediterranean, in olive groves, cactus fields and village workshops, with families who press, distill and blow glass the way their grandparents did.

Katari is how I bring their work home to you.

So I went looking.

to fields, farms and makers of

the ancient Mediterranean

and deep into remote villages of Tunisia, Egypt, France and Italy

to meet & to know

Exceptional makers

These families have perfected their crafts over generations. We travel to work with them directly, so every bottle carries their care, skill and tradition.

harvested from the Nile Delta

Meet Amr

Amr and his team cold-press nearly every Katari oil in their Cairo workshop. Visit his farm near Alexandria and you forget the noise of the city: every crop is tended like family.

a wabi-sabi UNESCO craft

Meet Smisha & Dalenda

A mother-daughter team whose raku-style pottery takes hours to make each piece, a craft found in only one village in Tunisia.

hand-blown in Cairo, Egypt

Meet Mohammed

In a Cairo workshop run by Lamyaa, who leads a whole team of glassmakers, Mohammed hand-blows most Katari glass: perfume bottles, jars, little hearts. Watching him work is mesmerizing.

ancient sustainable craft of olivewood

Meet Omar

Omar's family gives retired olive trees a second life as hand-carved spoons and tools. For every old tree, a new one is planted. It has always been this way.

a Ph.D. in physics, one love: Barie

Meet Tareq

Tareq pairs a scientist's precision with a wild-harvested ancient crop to make what we believe is the finest prickly pear seed oil in the world.

from the hills near Sbeitla, Tunisia

Meet Mohammed

Mohammed's family lives from their land, and fed us everything from it: eggs, almonds, peaches, honey. Their couscous was the best I have ever had.

from the rolling hills of Beja, Tunisia

Meet Wafa & Amin

With a Ph.D. in flower water distillation, Amin teaches villagers how to distill. It took us 10 years to find him, and his waters are the best we know.

Found in King Tut's tomb

Black seed oil was packed for a pharaoh's afterlife. Three thousand years later, Amr still presses it the slow way.

The fruit of the ancients

Pomegranates have grown around the Mediterranean since antiquity. We cold-press only the seeds, so the oil keeps its deep color and richness.

One harvest a year

Roses bloom for just a few weeks each spring. Miss the harvest and you wait another year. Real beauty is not fast.

but it is worth it

Weeks to make one bowl. A full year between rose harvests. Tons of cactus fruit for 66 lbs of seeds, pressed into just one quart of Barie.

one at a time

Every bottle is shaped by hand in Mohammed's Cairo workshop, so no two are exactly alike.
