A guide for women in hormonal transition

Your skin isn’t failing you.

It's asking for something ancient.

The Mediterranean diet transforms your body from within. Katari's ancient single-ingredient staples — sourced face to face from artisans who still make them by hand — do the same for your shifting, perimenopausal skin.

UNDERSTANDING THE SHIFT

Your skin didn't betray you. Here's what's actually happening.

Perimenopause triggers a hormonal cascade that disrupts your skin's ability to hold moisture, produce collagen, and protect itself. This isn't damage — it's a transition. One that women have navigated for thousands of years with the exact ingredients Katari still sources today.

01
Estrogen declines
Estrogen regulated collagen production. As it drops, skin loses density and elasticity — becoming thinner, drier, and more reactive almost overnight. The lipid barrier that kept moisture locked in begins to fail.
02
The barrier weakens
Your skin's intercellular matrix — the cement between cells — becomes depleted. Tightness, sudden sensitivity, and flaking are all signs of this breakdown. Most conventional products make it worse.
03
Inflammation rises
Lower estrogen removes natural anti-inflammatory protection. Redness, rosacea flares, and breakouts that never happened before are all signs of rising skin inflammation — what scientists now call "inflammaging."
I didn't formulate these products. I found them.
From Kate, founder

I didn't formulate these products. I found them.

I've spent over 15 years traveling to the sources — the farms in the Nile Delta, the cooperatives in the Beja region, the ancient quarry in Tunisia so remote there are no roads to it. I meet the artisans face to face. I bring back exactly what they make, exactly as it has been made for centuries.

Every Katari product has one ingredient. No fillers. No preservatives. No marketing ingredients to make a label look impressive. Just the single purest form of each ancient staple, sealed in handblown glass.

These ingredients helped women through every hormonal season of life long before the beauty industry existed. They still work. That's not a claim. That's millennia of evidence.

Four ancient staples. One complete ritual.

Rosehip Oil
Nile Delta, Egypt

Rosehip Oil

Rosa Rubiginosa · Whole Bloom
Natural retinol Brightening Barrier repair

Katari's rosehip is a Whole Bloom cold press — including dried petals and developing buds alongside the seeds — which produces the brilliant red color from exceptional lycopene concentration. It contains lab-verified 320.6 ppm of Vitamin A: a natural retinol substitute that signals skin cells to renew and produce new collagen, without the dryness or irritation of synthetic retinoids. The phenolic compounds (2,554 µg/g) act as a built-in antioxidant shield — which is
why this oil stays stable for over two years without any preservatives.

Lab-verified · Egyptian National Research Centre, 2026: Vitamin A 320.6 ppm · Vitamin E 583.2
ppm · Linoleic acid 44% · Linolenic acid 32% · pH 5.3. Linoleic acid is the primary fatty acid the skin
barrier is built from — and the one most depleted by perimenopausal hormonal decline.

Hoba Oil
Nile Delta, Egypt

Hoba Oil

Jojoba Liquid Wax · 100% Pure
Sebum biomimicry Barrier primer Balance

Hoba is technically a liquid wax ester, not an oil — which makes it uniquely similar to human sebum. At ~71% gadoleic acid, it is the closest plant-derived mirror of the sebum your skin produces naturally, and which perimenopausal hormonal shifts cause to become erratic. Applied before Rosehip Oil, it restores the skin's baseline balance. Applied after, it seals active ingredients inside. Cold-pressed below 60°C to preserve beta-sitosterol — which provides anti-inflammatory action comparable to low-dose hydrocortisone, without any side effects.

Lab-verified · Egyptian National Research Centre, 2026: Gadoleic acid 53.7% · Oleic acid 20.65% · Erucic acid 12.75% · pH 6.1. Stability: 10/10. Comedogenicity: 2. Dissolves oxidized sebum (blackheads) by mixing with it — the only plant oil that can do this.

Argil
Ouled Hafuz, Atlas Mountains, Tunisia

Argil

Primordial Green Clay
Deep detox Pore refining Weekly purification

Argil is harvested by hand from an ancient seabed in a quarry so remote there are no roads to it. Sun-dried only — never kiln-fired. Industrial clays are processed at 500°C+, which destroys the mineral ion exchange capacity. Argil's solar drying preserves the "living" mineral structure — its ability to exchange its own magnesium and calcium ions for the toxins and excess sebum in your pores. At 4.7% iron (5–9× more than pharmacy clays), it activates microcirculation to restore the dull, uneven tone that perimenopausal skin develops as cell turnover slows.

Mineral analysis verified · Laboratoire Central, Tunis: Iron 4.7% · Magnesium 1.6% (antiinflammatory) · pH 7.26 (physiologically gentle) · Lead <0.004% (verified pure). Mix with Roseau instead of water — the hydrosol buffers pH and adds active hydration during the mask.

Roseau
Beja Region, Tunisia

Roseau

Rose Water · First Distillation
pH reset Rosacea Penetration enhancer

Roseau is 100% pure first-distillation Rosa damascena hydrosol — petals harvested in May in the Beja region, where this practice has been continuous for over a thousand years. In Tunisia, the same rose water is added to coffee and pastries. For perimenopausal skin, it performs two critical jobs: restoring pH 4.5–5.5 (your skin's acid mantle) after tap water's pH 7–8 strips it every morning, and strengthening capillaries through quercetin glycosides — directly addressing the visible redness and rosacea flares that accompany hormonal fluctuation.

The science: pH 4.5–5.5 · Phenylethyl alcohol inhibits elastase and collagenase — the enzymes that degrade collagen and elastin. Molecular weight <200 Da means it penetrates the stratum corneum and acts as a penetration enhancer for every oil applied after it, multiplying absorption up to 3× (NCBI PMC4054083). Apply before any Katari oil — always. Comedogenicity: 0.

The ritual tools

HANDBLOWN GLASS
Mixing Bowl
The only safe vessel for mixing active clay. Metal reacts with Argil's mineral ions, neutralizing their exchange capacity. Glass preserves the full therapeutic activity.
HAND-CARVED OLIVE WOOD
Mixing Spatula
Carved from retired olive trees — naturally antibacterial, non-porous, and non-reactive with clay minerals. Used in Tunisian hammams for centuries for exactly this purpose.
WILD-HARVESTED MEDITERRANEAN
Sea Sponge
Naturally antibacterial and far gentler on sensitized perimenopausal skin than any cloth or synthetic alternative. Harvested by hand from the Mediterranean seabed.
RITUAL APPLICATION
Masque Brush
For applying Argil clay evenly without your hands absorbing the mineral actives before they reach your skin. Ensures even coverage and the correct layer thickness.

The Mediterranean Skin Ritual

Five minutes. Ancient practice. Built for your skin's new season.

The hydrosol-first rule is not optional. Roseau applied before any oil creates a micro-emulsion on contact that multiplies oil absorption. This is how Mediterranean women have applied these ingredients for centuries — and why the sequence matters.

01
Morning · Step 1
Reset the acid mantle
Mist Roseau onto clean, damp skin. Let it settle 30 seconds. This restores pH 4.5– 5.5 after tap water strips it — and opens the skin's pathway for the oil to follow. Never skip this step; it multiplies everything that comes after.
Roseau Rose Water
02
Morning · Step 2
Feed and balance
While skin is still damp from Roseau, press 2 drops of Hoba Oil into face and neck. Its liquid wax esters mirror your natural sebum — rebalancing what perimenopause makes erratic. Absorbs without greasiness or residue.
Hoba Oil (Jojoba)
03
Evening · Step 3
Repair and renew overnight
At night, when skin is in active repair mode, apply 2 drops of Rosehip Oil. The natural Vitamin A (320.6 ppm) signals keratinocytes to renew. The phenolic compounds protect that renewal from oxidative stress while you sleep.
Rosehip Oil
04
Weekly · Step 4
The deep purification
In your glass bowl, mix one teaspoon of Argil with enough Roseau to form a smooth paste. Apply with the masque brush. Leave 8–10 minutes — remove before it fully dries. Follow immediately with Roseau mist and then your oil.

ENHANCE YOUR RITUAL

The Discovery Kit is where you begin. These are where you go deeper.

Once you know your skin's response to the foundational ritual, Katari's other singleingredient concentrates address specific perimenopausal concerns — with the same ancient sourcing standard.

Barie Oil
Wild Prickly Pear · Tunisia · $134
Barie Oil
For collagen loss & deep repair
The only oil known to cosmetologists to naturally support the collagen that perimenopause depletes. One liter requires over one ton of wild-harvested Tunisian prickly pear fruit. Vitamin E at 1,100 mg/kg. Delta-7-Stigmasterol — a rare phytosterol found only in wild-grown plants — rebuilds the epidermal barrier at the cellular level. 1–2 drops at night, over your Rosehip layer.
ADD TO RITUAL
Granate Oil
Black Pomegranate · Egypt · $60
Granate Oil
For inflammation & redness
Punicic acid (Omega-5, 70–85%) acts on PPAR-gamma receptors — the body's master regulators of chronic skin inflammation. When estrogen drops, inflammaging accelerates; Granate works at the receptor level to suppress it while stimulating fibroblasts to produce new procollagen. Ancient Egyptian restorative medicine, now confirmed by peer-reviewed research (Aslam et al., 2006).
ADD TO RITUAL
Géran
Geranium Flower Water · Tunisia · $55
Géran
For hormonal sebum & flushing
A first-distillation Pelargonium graveolens hydrosol specifically noted in Mediterranean women's practice for use during hormonal stress. Geraniol inhibits nitric oxide release, reducing the inflammatory cascade. Modulates sebum viscosity where Roseau resets pH. Mild vasoconstriction helps with the flushing and capillary redness that accompany hot flashes. Use alternating with Roseau, or blend both.
