How Casa Katari Works

It was artisan-made, personally selected and inspected and lived with at Katari Escape before before joins this collection.

THE Principle

Every piece in Casa spends time at our escape before it is offered here. We wash the towels. We drink from the glasses at breakfast. If an object does not earn its place in the house, it doesn't earn a place in the shop. 

 The selection process

from workshop to shop

Every piece is a traditional item of craft found on expedition. We make one piece that is our gold standard with Katari twist on traditional craft to accomodate for modern tastes. The master samples go to our escape to get tested and approved by our guests. We use it the way a guest would for weeks before deciding it is ready.

Then a small production run is made (10-20 trial pieces) and each order is inspected by us in person during one of our expeditions before it ships.

Before You Ask

How Did You Find The Artisans Who Make Casa Katari Items?

For almost 20 years we worked with artsians in the Mediterranean who created our beauty items, but it was just a portion of what they made or what we could have brought. Now we are ready with a curated edit from ancient Mediterranean to your modern home.

Do you actually keep candles lit in the Tropea rental?

No. We keep candle scents in diffusers and body oils for you to try. We sell candles for your own home, but the house itself stays candle-free to ensure safety. We test the scents with our houses and with our Katari customers who chose our candle samples.

Where Do the Jewelry Pieces Come from?

One silversmith's workshops are in Tunis and Mahdia, Tunisia, met during a spring expeditions of 2025 and 2027. The four pieces draw on traditional Berber silver forms — the berber necklace, the scarf clip, the bride bracelet, made in solid silver with coral detailing, not plated.

Why Some Pieces Sell Out & Never Come Back?

Small-batch and made-to-order pieces are intentionally not mass-produced. When a run sells through, we either return to the same maker for a new run, sometimes with a small variation or retire the piece if it does not resonate with you the same way it did with us. 

How Can I See a Product Before I commit?

If you are staying at Katari Escape in Tropea, yes, most of the current Casa edit is in active use there. Otherwise, we have pretty darn nice photos and videos of items in use and close-up with all textures in different lighting.
