The Oil That Changed Everything!

A love story between me and jojoba (aka Hoba).

When I started Katari, it was just me—and my green clay, Argil. I couldn’t stop talking about it (still can’t). I wasn’t the kind of person who followed beauty trends. I never wore much makeup. Skincare routines? Not really my thing.

And then I tried jojoba oil.

I didn’t even know why I bought that first canister. It was at a spa show. Something just told me to try it. I brought it home, opened it, and tried it on my skin.

That was it. One try—and suddenly, I had a beauty routine I couldn’t live without.

From Curiosity to Obsession

I found an artisan team in Tunisia that cold-pressed oils the traditional way, and their jojoba was beautiful—pure, lightweight, clean. It became part of the Katari collection, and my daily ritual. It worked for my skin, my hair, my whole life. Our customers loved it too. I was sure I'd found the perfect oil.

A few years later.... I was sick as a dog, sniffling, barely functioning, and I got a call from the Denver World Trade Center. Well, because I did training there, and if there is one person who might be interested in oils, that would be me, the owner of Katari, they thought... They wanted me to meet an Egyptian oil maker named Amr, who made a visit to Denver. I wasn’t excited meeting anyone. I didn’t need anything else. My business was small, and I wanted to keep it simple. I had enough on my plate.

Still, I went.

Meeting Amr

Amr didn’t speak much English. I didn’t speak much at all (thank you, cold). His friend translated for us. I listened. I smiled. I asked for samples—because of course I did.

When they arrived, I opened each bottle. I lined them up by color. I looked. I smelled. I touched. And I was stunned.

They were the most beautiful oils I’d ever seen.

Three months later, I was on a plane to Cairo to see what Amr made, because I do not only get samples. I am all about seeing everything from seed to bottle.

The Magic of Egypt

Cairo is wild, vibrant, chaotic. The traffic is something else. There are no streetlights really. You just cross at your own risk... The people? So kind. So full of joy. I fell in love instantly—with the place, with the culture, with the feeling.

But I didn’t go for the sightseeing. I went to see Amr’s plant—how he worked, who he worked with, how his oils were made. And it was beautiful.

Everyone smiled. His team had been with him for years. The energy was light, joyful. I toured the production floor, I tasted the oils (yes, they’re food-grade), and I asked a million questions.

I was in love—with the people, the land, the process.

Then Amr and I went to his farm.

Hoba's Homeland

Picture this: a peaceful farm near Alexandria, air fresh and sun-drenched, plants growing in the most fertile soil on Earth—nourished by the ancient flooding of the Nile.

I ate sugarcane straight from the field. I 'adopted' a donkey (his name is Rasputin), probably for a sub-par behavior... lol. I learned about irrigation systems older than most countries. And I understood something I hadn’t fully realized before:

Location changes everything

This wasn’t just jojoba oil. This was Hoba. This was a new obsession.

Better than Better

I showed Amr the jojoba oil I had sourced before. I was proud of it. It was good.

He took it, smelled it, rubbed it on his hands, smiled and said:
“This is good jojoba oil. But mine is better.”

And he was right.

His Hoba wasn’t just better. It was the best.

Why Katari Hoba Oil is Different

Hoba is light, fast-absorbing, non-greasy, and deeply nourishing. It mimics the skin’s own pH, making it one of the safest and most effective oils for every skin type, even the most sensitive.

It’s a gentle cleanser, a calming moisturizer, a beard oil, a hair conditioner, a baby balm. It’s the one thing I use daily—and the one thing I recommend to everyone.

Some people told me they tried jojoba before and didn’t love it. Then they try Hoba, and they fall in love—just like I did.

how to use Hoba OIl

Apply a few drops to damp skin after cleansing

From Ancient Soil to Your Skin

I’ve seen the fields. I’ve met the people. I’ve walked the process from seed to bottle. And I can say with confidence: this is not just jojoba oil.

This is Katari Hoba I am so proud to share with you!

magic

My sister let me use her Hoba oil when I had forgotten my generic facial moisturizer on vacation and I've never been more thankful for forgetting something when traveling. I have super sensitive and dry skin typically, but my face loves this stuff. It's soft and remains fresh-feeling throughout the day and I'm obsessed :)
